Behold The Hounds of Geevor. These whimsical dogs are the work of British artist David Kemp, who uses found objects to create his art, “particularly discarded remnants of the mining industry in his area, on the Tinner’s Coast in Cornwall. Twenty years ago, he was alerted about a mountain of old boots that were to be buried, so he salvaged them.”
A friend, working on the maintenance staff at Geevor, watched a mechanical digger burying a pile of redundant miners boots, & gave me a shout, I drove over & filled my pickup with the discarded boots, not knowing what I might do with them. This discarded footwear was to become THE HOUNDS OF GEEVOR.
“Relics of a vast subterranean workforce that rarely saw the light of day, each of these Hounds fed up to three & a half families (seven boots per dog). Released from their underground labours, they now wander the clifftops, looking for a proper job”David’s awesome rubber hounds proved so popular that he was commissioned to cast them in bronze for downtown Redruth in Cornwall. I REALLY LIKE THE PINK but also getting it in XL in a nice neat package is a nice convenience too
Animal Crossing is like the only other 3DS Nintendo game I’ve been following because it seems like they’ve made actual changes to the game this time rather than just adding a hair salon, so I’ll probably be getting that when it comes out over here as well.
I’m srsly considering getting Pokemon Mystery Dungeon on the 3DS. Playing through the second DS game again has reminded me how much I enjoyed its style and it’d finally be a game other than Metal Gear for the damn thing.

Fucking christ, do you know what this would have done? What this would have meant to SO MANY people?? The truth of this is devastating. And to think it almost found it’s way into a DISNEY film??
The inclusion of this scene alone would have made it the greatest animated feature the company ever produced. Easily. And if you think that’s hyperbolic clearly you don’t understand.

It was clearly something the crew was very reluctant to get rid of if it made it all the way to rough-clean (and in a few scenes clean!), fully inbetweened animation. That is like, thousands and thousands of dollars and weeks (months?!) of labour. Maybe a reluctant producer decided they would alienate their white middle-class American audiences by making them feel “too guilty” and pressed them to drop it? It’s unfortunate, it’s one of the most honest accounts of racism in a Disney movie (which is why it’s believable that someone got uncomfortable and made a case to get it chopped)
Designing entertainment by committee for maximum marketability is probably the most heartbreaking process in Hollywood.
I’ve been seeing this around my dash and think it deserves some more recognition!
